Well, this requires years of practice, so you probably won’t flip right away, but participating in sports is about finding the right bike for you, getting your gear, and finding a place to ride. As easy as driving there.

Find the right bike for you

If you’re just getting started with motocross, you’ll want to practice proper form, body positioning, and overall riding style. Google “How to Ride a Dirt Bike” for lots of information about such things.

Personally, I recommend Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, and Suzuki used 4-stroke 250s. You can visit Craigslist and perform a local search to find bikes for sale in your area. These are the easiest motocross bikes to get started with and you can have a decent one for about 2 grounds.

Get the gear

You have a bike, now you need gear. Motocross is a dangerous sport by nature, so safety is a top priority. At a minimum, you should buy a helmet, goggles, boots, a chest protector, and riding clothing. All of these items can be found on websites such as: www.motosport.com..

Helmets and goggles are your main safety components. They protect your nogin from collisions and your eyes from dirt. These are the first ones you need to buy.

Next is boots. High quality boots protect your ankles from fractures and your feet from dirt and rocks. It’s very important.

Next, the chest protector. These fills protect the fuselage from blunt instruments such as tree branches, rocks and dirt. These have saved my life many times!

Finally, riding coat. Full riding outfits consist of jerseys, trousers and gloves. Riding coats are specially designed to take the blow that motocross gives you, and moreover, who wants to ruin their ordinary outfits?

Find a place to ride

Visit mxtrackguide.com for a list of tracks by state. This is by far the most effective tool I have found to find motocross tracks. Find something near you and go out!

You can also ride on private land or in the local sandbox of your area. You need a connection to find them. I found a lot by word of mouth.

Driving there

So you have a bike, gear, a place to ride, and now you just have to drive there. no problem. If you have a car, you can easily install the hitch by simply lowering it into the U hole. Once you’ve installed the hitch, you can buy a hitch bike carrier at a store such as Harbor Freight and get there along the way.

If you have an SUV, it may or may not have a hitch installed. With an SUV, you can opt for a motorcycle carrier in a hitch, or a small flatbed or rail trailer.

If you have a pickup truck, just load your bike into bed. If desired, you can also tow a trailer or use a motorcycle carrier in the hitch.
