From classic to modern
Ferrari 348 Challenge
car
Ferrari’s 348 Challenge Sports Car was first founded in 1993 and was a single market race series for amateur drivers. Originally founded in Europe, it spread to the United States within a year.
Originally, the series revolved around a modified 348 Serie Special Car, which was later extended to any 348 that reached the 348SS specification after 1989.
In 1994, Ferrari announced a limited edition of just 45 units, 32x348TB and 13x348TS, targeting the US market, designated for the 348 Factory Challenge.
The Serie Special sports car includes a sill painted in the same color as the other cars, and this feature has been carried over to the Challenge series.
These challenge cars had road-going trims, each receiving an individually numbered plate placed on the right door frame.
It was equipped with an upgraded engine control unit, a large heat shield, and an unrestricted exhaust system, but there was a race version that used the pipes straight. It was also included:
Point to clip the harness
Anti-roll cage mounting points
Aluminum pedal
Brake duct under the car
Tow hooks on both ends of the car
Harder spring
Fiberglass front and rear bumpers
Leather-wrapped steering wheel with “348” insignia
Ferrari’s optional Challenge Kit costs $ 14,000 and has been shown to take about 60 man-hours to convert the original car into a race trim with this kit.
The 3.4-liter double overhead cam V8 engine used in the Challenge series brings an increase of 320bhp.
The resulting racer used slick tires, improved braking systems and upgraded aerodynamics.
The 1995 season was the last season for the 348 Challenge Car to attend the race meeting. By then, it had been replaced by the Ferrari 355 Challenge model.
Ferrari 348 Serie Special
car
Ferrari’s Serie Speciale sports car was manufactured between 1992 and 1993 and referred to a limited edition of 100 modified versions of the 348TB and TS for the US market only.
The rear wheels used a wider rim, which increased the rear wheels by 2 inches. It was also equipped with:
Free flow exhaust system
Higher final drive
Front splitter
New front and rear grille
Alternative rear light assembly
Bumpers and rocker covers marching the colors of the car
Both sports seats and door panels are covered with leather
Each sports car was individually numbered with a special plate located on the passenger seat door post.
Finally, in 1994, as a result of strong demand, an additional 15 units were built.
That engine
The 348 Serie Special was equipped with the same 3.4 liter double overhead cam, V8 engine that was installed in the original variation.
However, this unit was slightly modified to generate 312bhp at 7200rpm, which produced the same top speed, but the 0-60mph time was slightly reduced to 5.3 seconds.
competition
The cross section of the 348 Challenge Car and Serie Special Car competition included the Corvette ZR1, Honda NSX and Marcos LM500. Ferrari Performance:
