What is commonly known as a dump valve, or blow-off valve, is a turbocharged engine pressure release system. It fits between the compressor outlet and the throttle, reducing compressor damage and reducing turbocharger and engine wear. Bypassing the compressed air with a closed throttle allows the compressed air to be recirculated or released into the atmosphere.
In order to install it, the vehicle must have a turbocharger or supercharger. Blow-off valve kits are available on many models such as Audi, Ford, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru and Volkswagen. Automakers usually adapt this not only for emission purposes, but also for fuel economy and drivability.
