Most of the car paintings I have shown show that people lack some important things when drawing cars. One of these is patience. It’s clear that when someone spent only 30 minutes painting, they tried to build it from scratch.

Drawing a car and making it look real is difficult enough without having to compose all the details of the drawing. It is highly recommended to start drawing from the reference image. Yes, you can trace directly above the photo if you want, but this isn’t very useful in the long run. You have to look at the lines and tones and train your brain to apply them to your painting.

It’s a colorful world .. or is it?

One great tip to use when you’re having a hard time deciding how to display your drawing is to get rid of the colors. Retrieving all the colors in a car photo leaves the black and white tones that need to be duplicated in the drawing. This makes it much easier to visualize what you need to do to make your car look real and accurate.

When doing this, keep in mind how the lights are played on different surfaces of the car. Is it shiny and metallic? Is it dull and rubbery? How do you think you can express what is different in a photo with a pencil and paper? A solid understanding of this process will not only help you learn how to draw a car well, but also allow you to draw what you like. Great artists have become great through practice and observation. It’s the title of your head that I’ve noticed and sinned over many ambitious artists. This may not seem like much, but if you tilt your head unnoticed, the drawing position will be effectively offset, resulting in a car tilted to the left or right. To avoid this stop every few minutes, stand up and look at the drawing from a different perspective. Make sure everything that should be horizontal is horizontal and that it is not tilted along the way.
