After you have an accident, the most important thing is to make sure you are safe. Then the second important thing is to get your car back to normal. The outcome of a collision repair service is highly dependent on the type of parts used by the mechanic. Whether they use genuine, OEM, or aftermarket parts will determine how well your car will run and how long the rehabilitation will last.
genuine
Some crash repair services try to use genuine parts for all repair work. These parts were originally installed in the vehicle. They usually come in a box with the car manufacturer’s logo, so you know it’s a real part.
When it comes to cost, genuine parts are one of the most expensive types you can buy for your car. For this reason, we recommend that you use these items only if they are still under warranty and you do not have to pay the out-of-pocket costs.
It is generally believed that choosing something other than the manufacturer’s parts does not void the remaining warranty. In fact, according to the Federal Trade Commission’s Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, it is illegal for a manufacturer to revoke a warranty based solely on the type of parts used. This law allows you to complete your work at home or anywhere without revoking your warranty.
Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM)
You can choose to install original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts during collision repair. It’s not real, but it’s exactly what was on the car because it was made by the same company that made the parts for the car company. The difference is that the box does not have the car company logo.
Like the real thing, OEMs can be more expensive than the aftermarket. However, it will be cheaper than the real thing. It’s a good way to save a little money and get the same parts that were originally in your car.
Aftermarket
Aftermarket works are very common. It looks and works the same as the original. The big difference is that it is made by a company other than the manufacturer. The structure is designed to fit and function like the original.
In some cases, aftermarket designs are better than more expensive designs. This is because these companies are analyzing why their products fail first. Once you know what the underlying problem is, you can solve it without these flaws. In some cases, the material can be simple so that it doesn’t last long, and aftermarket builders choose something a bit more robust.
If your part is out of warranty, or if your insurer is not so concerned about which replacement type to use, we recommend purchasing an aftermarket product.
Collision repair uses different types of products to rehabilitate a vehicle. In addition to genuine, OEM, and aftermarket, mechanics may suggest rebuilt or readjusted parts. These may help keep costs down, but they are worn and should be used with caution.
