The Honda C70 began production in 1967 as a more powerful version of the world’s most popular motorcycle, the Honda C50 Super Cub. Like the Super Cub, the C70 continues to be in production to this day and talks a lot about its reliability and popularity among riders. The classic underbone motorcycle design of the C70 is very similar to the Super Cub, but with a 72cc air-cooled engine, it can run around crowded towns and cities at 6.30hp. The C70, which was first exported outside Japan in 1970, entered the United Kingdom in 1972. Here, following the success of the C50, it was rapidly accepted by riders of all ages.

One of the notable differences between the C50 and C70 is the use of an automatic clutch on the 3-speed transmission. This made it easy for almost anyone to ride this 180-pound Honda, even in the worst of traffic conditions, where the clutch would normally have to be used all the time for gear changes. In appearance, the Honda C70 continued the popular look of the previous Super Cub. However, the larger engine allowed motorcyclists to exceed speeds of 50 mph. The Honda C70 came with thin 17-inch wheels with drum brakes and did a pretty good job of providing grip and stability. Although couldn’t compete with the spartan C50, this step-through motorcycle brought great value to satisfying owners and returned numbers in excess of 100mpg.

For decades, Honda engineers have continued to improve the C70, with variations in minor exterior design changes. In addition, the C70 model has been available in several color combinations for many years. This makes the C70 very attractive to motorcycle enthusiasts and collectors, and some Honda fans own one bike from each production model. In 1982, Honda made the first major technical change, upgrading the 6v electrical system to 12v and introducing CDI ignition for reliability and fuel economy.
