Acura RSX-Swan Song

Acura RSX-Swan Song

When Honda launched the Acura brand in 1986, two models, the Integra and the Legend, powered the fleet. Since then, many other models have been added to the Acura lineup, the Integra was eventually renamed the RSX, and the Legend was later given the RL designation. After 20 years of service, the Integra / RSX will be in its final year of production. Read why Honda Motor Co. kills this once popular seller.

Blow up the bridge -When Honda created Acura, the company wanted to include one “bridge model” in the mix to help Honda owners move to Acura. The idea at the time was that the price difference between the two brands would be too big for many former Honda owners to swallow. Therefore, the Integra was created at a much lower price than the Legend’s general price, only slightly higher than the most expensive Honda model. With this pricing plan in place, Honda accurately believed that Integra / RSX owners would eventually opt for the higher-end Acura. But today, Honda is now actively separating the two brands, involving individual R & D departments. In addition, Acura has been relocated to make it more competitive with the Japanese luxury brands Infiniti and Lexus, which do not have a bridge model.

Invest elsewhere -RSX was scheduled to change in relation to the first point. The current model is old and the money to create a new model will rob the company of revenue. Acura states that a coupe version of the popular TL sedan is likely to be introduced to meet consumer demand for luxury coupe.

Changes in consumer tastes -While the sports coupe has its advantages, the market for this type of car is limited and declining. Chevrolet gave up Camaro, Pontiac the Firebird, but Mitsubishi Eclipse and Ford Mustang managed to keep themselves. None of these cars are at the luxury level of Acura, and consumer interest has been steadily declining over the last five years.

New NS? -It is rumored that Acura’s abolished two-seater sports car, the NSX, will be back. Sales may be limited to less than 10,000 models per year, but the higher-priced NSX will be the Acura Fleet “Hello” model. American Acura dealers want a car, and Honda Motor Company seems to have a lot of obligations.

In its heyday, the Integra was a popular seller and a frequently stolen car. Integra has become a popular target for thieves because of the difficulty of finding parts. This problem is expected to be exacerbated when the RSX is completely discontinued. Therefore, if you do not already have the alarm system installed on your Integra / RSX, install it today. The Integra / RSX you are currently driving may be the last one you own. Don’t let the thief make that decision for you!
