History of Honda C50

History of Honda C50

First seen in the 1958, the Honda C50 Super Cub is still in production, making it one of the most popular motorcycles in the world. Of course, the basics have undergone many changes over the last 50 years, but the basic look and design remains true to the original 1958C50. It was a very small vehicle with a small 49cc engine of only 4.5hp. When Honda first began exporting Super Cub in 1959, they faced a daunting challenge to the much larger British motorcycles. With the slogan that you meet the nicest people in Honda, they were able to find acceptance from people looking for a decent vehicle that came with a clean reputation.

From the beginning, the Honda C50 design made it stand out and looked colorful and petite next to a larger chrome-plated motorcycle. While other small motorcycles used 2-stroke engines, Honda introduced a 4-stroke engine on the C50, increasing RPM to squeeze out additional power and improve fuel economy by over 300mpg. Weighing only 170 pounds, this little bike has a simple 3-speed transmission that makes it easy for anyone of all ages to learn and ride. The Honda C50 also had a large wheelbase for a stable ride, even if the top speed did not far exceed 50 mph.

The first major upgrade was made in 1967, and Honda used the new SOHC 49cc engine to fine-tune the engine for a slightly better 4.9hp. This year, C70 and C90 bikes were also announced. These were basically the same Honda Super Cub design, but with a larger displacement. Since then, Honda has continued to improve the C50, slightly changing its appearance and adding new features such as CDI ignition and electric start (some models).

Today, the Honda C50 is a compact motorcycle that is very popular for short commute in crowded cities and towns. In fact, sales in Japan are improving, and the latest C50 model further improves the ratio of electricity to fuel economy. For many young riders, it is an ideal choice for basic detours and fun rides. Motorcycle enthusiasts also love collecting old Super Cub, especially with so many variations such as Baby Cub, Press Cub and Street Cub. Be careful to use genuine spare parts to keep your Honda C50 model in perfect condition and join the other 60 million Super Cub on the roads of the world.
