Make your golf cart lighter and faster

The average speed of a standard golf cart is 15 mph. Therefore, moving from one hole to the next can be a very slow process. However, there are several ways to make your cart lighter and faster. Many companies sell a variety of items to assist in this task.

The first step is to get rid of excess weight. From extra cup holders to flashy and unnecessary rims on wheels.

A very simple but often overlooked improvement is to make sure there are no debris on the bottom of the cart. Mud and other solid debris will significantly slow down your cart.

You can also add larger tires. The larger the tires, the greater the rotation and therefore the faster the cart. In addition, thicker tires have more traction to handle faster speeds more effectively (and keep you safe). You can get tires at any golf cart store, or even online.

Also, make sure the tires are properly inflated. As with regular vehicles, poor inflation slows down.

Installing a higher RPM high speed electric motor will also help the cart move a little faster on the course.

You can also adjust the governor or remove it altogether. The governor limits the maximum speed that a golf cart can reach. These are attached to most carts for safety.

Replacing an existing gearset with a lower ratio will also improve the overall speed of the cart. The standard gear setting for carts is typically 12.5: 1 with a top speed of 14 to 15 mph. However, the 8: 1 gearset increases speed to about 20 mph.

If you have an electric golf cart, making it faster involves several different techniques, and you may find it a bit difficult.

To increase the speed of the electric cart, you need to get a new battery that maximizes the output of the motor. Most electric golf carts are already built to run on a wide range of batteries, so finding one that maximizes output shouldn’t be a problem.

If you don’t have a new battery, you can also get a new electric engine. If you find yourself already using the highest voltage possible, this may be the only way to increase speed.

As with traditional golf carts, you can also upgrade the gear system of your electric cart to speed it up. The gear ratio of electric vehicles is usually 8: 1. Switch to 12: 1 to increase speed. However, keep in mind that increasing the speed of the cart can impair your ability to tow heavy loads.

Many customized vehicles are much more expensive, but you can do all this for you. However, with a little know-how and time, you can speed up your golf cart from green to green (safely, of course).
