There are more than 20 CAD software on the market today. Which one should I learn?

Well, this was the most annoying question for me when I was trying to get a degree in engineering. Every time I asked someone either a senior or a professor, they all gave me different answers. Some were asked to go to Catia or NX Unigraphics, while others were asked to go to Solidworks or Autocad. I was worried because no one suggested Solid edge and my college taught me Solid edge. The decision was difficult, but I was aiming to be a design engineer, so I had to choose between them. Eventually, one of my friends suggested that most German car companies use this CAD software, so I went to CATIA.

How did you get a job by learning CAD software?

I was receiving industrial training at BFW in August 2016.[Bharat Fritz Werner] They were German and used Solidworks instead of Catia. I somehow got the software, learned some modules from the internet and completed the industrial training. Learning Solidworks wasn’t hard for me because I already knew Catia & Solidedge. I would also like to thank the project instructors for helping me through the entire industrial training using the software.

I was interviewed at Adobe Metal Products in June 2017, and the factory manager asked me a question. “Do you know Solidworks?”

Obviously, the answer was “yes”. I know SolidWorks. He was impressed when he told him about his previous experience with SolidWorks. But I knew I needed to learn more. That’s why I started learning Solidworks before joining Adobe Metals. And when I finally joined there, I was assigned a 3D modeling job at the company. But over time, my company’s CNC punching press only accepted AutoCAD files, so I got used to Autocad as well.

Currently, I am familiar with four different CAD software and are entitled to provide the appropriate answer to this question. Let’s start. Here are three different formulas to solve this problem.

1. CAD software is available in three levels: —

Beginner level software:-

  • Used only for 2D drafting work.

  • They are mainly used in small and small manufacturing industries.

  • This software is very cheap or free.

  • These are not user friendly.

  • Example:-AutoCAD 2D, Draftsight, etc.

Professional level software:-

  • Used for both 2D drafting and 3D modeling work.

  • These are very user-friendly software that every novice design engineer will love.

  • This software is used in small and medium-sized industries.

  • They are more expensive than basic level software, but cheaper than advanced level software.

  • Examples:-Solidworks, SolidEdge, etc.

Advanced level software:-

  • It is used for all three tasks: CAD, CAM and CAE.

  • This is very expensive software.

  • These are only used by top companies.

  • These are very expensive software.

  • This software is complicated to use.

  • Examples:-Catia, SiemensNX, etc.

2. Market share of various CAD software

by ‘idatalabs’ The survey has the following data:

  • Solidworks is used by 38099 Company.

  • Catia is used by 11,369 companies.

  • Siemens NX is used by 2,393 companies.

  • AutoCAD is used by 114818 companies.

  • Creo / ProE is used by 2355 companies.

  • Solid Edge is used by 83 companies.

  • Draftsight is used by 1046 companies.

  • Autodesk Inventor is used by 8881 companies.

This means that AutoCAD has the largest share of 36% and SolidWorks has 21%. Autodesk Inventor and Catia cost 5% and 6% respectively.

Therefore, these four softwares are the most widely used on the market, and fortunately there is only one beginner-level and one professional-level software.

3. CAD software used by various companies:-

  • Solidworks is used by Tesla Motors, Illinois Tool Works, BFW, Adobe Metals, Pentair and more.

  • Catia is used by Triumph Group, Honda R & D Americas, Audi, Jaguar Land Rover, Škoda, Bentley Motors Limited and more.

  • AutoCAD is used in Atkins, restore hardware, almost every micro / small industry, and more.

  • Siemens NX is used in Rolls-Royce Holdings, B / E Aerospace, Daimler, SpaceX and more.

  • AutoDesk Inventor is used by Parker-Hannifin, Cameron International, Mettler-Toledo International and others.

  • Creo is used in Paccar, Cummins, Lockheed Martin, Toyota and more.

  • Solid Edge is used by Kulite Semiconductor Products, Inc, The Wooster Brush Company, CNH Industrial NV and others.

  • Draftsight is used by Semtech Corporation, Mecsmart Systems Inc., Terex and others.

So there are all reasons to choose the right software right now. I recommend you go with market share.
