History of Honda AX250

History of Honda AX250

First seen in 1989, the Honda AX 250 quickly became a popular motorcycle due to its exceptional handling, excellent performance and rider comfort. Manufactured in Japan and exported as the AX-1, it has almost the same specifications as the old American model Honda NX250. The changes from the NX 250 are mostly superficial, such as the unique dual headlights and alloy wheels found on the AX 250. The NX250’s proven tubular steel double cradle chassis is the AX-1 250 (typically the AX 250).

Equipped with a liquid-cooled 4-stroke DOHC single-cylinder engine, this Japanese off-road bike was able to deliver 26 horsepower at 8500 rpm. These weren’t the largest numbers, but they were enough to fit a fair amount into the 205-pound chassis of the AX 250. This Honda off-road vehicle came with disc brakes on both the front 90/100 19-inch and the rear 120. / 90 16 inch tires; ideal for speed control on rugged terrain. The transmission system consists of 13 front sprocket units and 41 rear sprocket units. For even better control, the rider had a 6-speed chain transmission gearbox that could carry the Honda AX 250 up to a top speed of about 85-90mph.

The off-road Honda AX 250 was also highly regarded for rider comfort thanks to its well-designed suspension and ground clearance of 254 mm. The 37mm front fork unit had a comfortable 221mm travel and the rear suspension unit consisted of Pro-Link components with 201mm rear travel. Ideal for rough riding! Casual riders also loved the Honda AX250, thanks to its rider-friendly touch, including electric start, dual disc brakes, and worry-free CDI ignition. Depending on driving conditions, owners report fairly good fuel consumption of about 10 miles per gallon.

Manufactured in Japan until 1994, the Honda AX 250 has built a significant fan base among early off-road enthusiasts. In fact, the gray market version of the original AX 250 is still available in certain parts of Asia and is very popular with tourists who are enthusiastic about touring on less than perfect rural roads. The AX 250 continues to be a popular used bike in the UK thanks to its reliable Honda engine and readily available spare parts. With proper maintenance and high quality parts, even the Honda AX 250 10 years ago can captivate the crowd and excite offroad riders.
